Strong brown ale (double malt) sweet. Smooth and warm with coffee and chocolate hints. Top-fermented, bottle conditioned ale.

FLAVOUR:
Slight bitterness given by the torrefied malt which then yields aromas of coffee, caramel and chocolate. A full-bodied, smooth beer in keeping with the best traditions of Belgian brewing.
APPEARANCE:
Beige, compact, subtle and persistent foam; dark brown in colour, akin to a monk’s habit, free of suspended solids, but sometimes presents a yeast haze; soft carbonation
BOUQUET:
Torrefied, with notes of coffee, chocolate, carob, walnut and earthy, damp notes from the barrel staves, light liquorice, ripe medlar and caramel.
AT THE TABLE
PAIRING:
Side dishes of lentils and beans, soups with legumes, ham hock with caramelised rind, chocolate cake, crème caramel, panna cotta.

THE NAME
This comes from the Latin word for "dark". The beer also alludes to the habit worn by monks. In fact, the technical name of the colour of Atra is defined as "monk's habit".
Served at room temperature, it’s reminiscent of meditation beers.
